Spiritual life - a soil in which we will grow and bear fruit

The spiritual life is like a soil you must bury yourself in if you are to grow. Until then you will be like grain left in a granary. In the granary, of course, it is undisturbed; it is not subject to rain or wind or hail, but it will soon rot or be nibbled away by mice, which is even worse. Whereas, the grain that is put in the earth has to endure bad weather, but it grows, bears fruit and is useful. In embracing the spiritual life, you will not be safe: you will have to face winds and storms, but you will also find conditions that enable you to grow and bear fruit for humanity. Isn’t it better to be exposed to bad weather and to grow than to be eaten up by mice and mildew? It is true that with the spiritual life you will have to go through trials which you would have been spared if you had lived a purely materialistic life, but don’t let that trouble you – keep going on the path that will lead you to the divine world.
