Daily Meditation: Sunday, December 14, 2008

You work for an ideal, you are selfless and generous, and …

You work for an ideal, you are selfless and generous, and of course you risk being abused by other people or shown a lack of gratitude. So the time comes when you feel tempted to say to yourself, ‘I’m an idiot, I’m so stupid, I should have realized beforehand that life is a jungle. To get success and respect you can’t have too many scruples. Oh, how stupid I’ve been! But that’s all over, from now on I’ll act like everyone else.’ Well, that’s the worst kind of reasoning there is. It’s painful to lose one’s illusions… I know that as well as anyone! But why lose your ideal along with them or, in other words, why lose the only thing that can give your life real meaning? Whenever you are disappointed with human beings, from now on, cry for a bit if you can’t help it, but never think you were wrong to follow the divine path of kindness, generosity and sacrifice: keep going!
