Heaven and earth - they are symbols of the two principles, masculine and feminine
Genesis says: ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.’ Heaven and earth, and the relationship existing between them, are symbols that need to be interpreted. Heaven and earth symbolize the two principles, masculine and feminine―emissive and receptive. These two principles unite, and from this union children are born. Everything on earth is a product of the union of the masculine and feminine principles, of heaven and earth. If the earth severs this tie, if it is no longer linked with heaven, then heaven can no longer revitalize it, and without heaven’s energy the earth turns into a desert. Heaven and earth―the masculine principle and the feminine principle―already exist as realities in the sublime realms on high, and they are mirrored in all the intervening regions and domains, right down to the physical plane. Wherever we look, we see nothing but the union of these two masculine and feminine principles.
