Adam and Eve - a description of the psychic processes at work in each of us

The banishing of Adam and Eve from earthly paradise is not simply the story of the misfortune of one man—Adam—and one woman—Eve, who, because they ate an apple, were guilty of disobeying God. The story of Adam and Eve tells about the psychic processes at work within each of us, whether man or woman. When we no longer link our intellect (Adam) and our heart (Eve) to our spirit and our soul—which are reflections of the Cosmic Spirit and Universal Soul—we are drawn down into the lower regions. This is ‘the Fall’. We must therefore be on our guard not to abandon the Garden of Eden, that is to say, the heaven within us. To avoid falling and being engulfed by the lower world, we must hold on firmly to the world above. Some will say that this all sounds very complicated. On the contrary: for those who have learned to reflect and reason along the lines of the great universal symbols, this interpretation is simple and clear. Now, if people prefer to cling to the tale of the fellow and his wife in a garden with a serpent and an apple, and if this makes more sense to them and helps them evolve, then I have no objection. They are free to do so.*
