Family, universal - trying to feel we belong to it

Those who get married add new members to their family: a father-in-law, a mother-in-law and any number of sisters- and brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and so on. But that does not necessarily make them more aware of what a family really is. It is quite possible to widen the circle of people we frequent and still remain narrow-minded, limited and selfish. We see this every day. Starting a family and even having children is still no proof that someone is capable of an expansion of consciousness, which would show itself in an attitude of nobility and selflessness, in a willingness to limit oneself, to suffer and make sacrifices for others. But there is still one more step to go. Tell yourself that, over and above your own family – the one you already belong to and the one you might like to start – you are a member of the great universal family of God’s creatures. May this thought delight you, and may you feel inspired to work for it daily.
