Figure 8 - interpretation from the Emerald Table and the Lord’s Prayer

The figure 8 is formed by two circles placed one above the other and touching in one point. The top circle represents the world above, the lower circle the world below, and the two worlds are in contact with each other. In this figure of 8, where the lower circle is exactly symmetrical to the upper circle, we can see illustrated the principle expressed in The Emerald Tablet: ‘Everything below is like everything above, and everything above is like everything below, to create the miracle of the one thing.’ The circle below is like the one above, and, because they are connected, in effect they create the miracle of the one thing. We find this same idea in the Lord’s Prayer, when Jesus says, ‘Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’. Jesus wishes the world above to come down to the world below, so that the earth might one day be an exact reflection of heaven, thus achieving the miracle of unity. Heaven above must come down to the earth, and this ‘earth’ includes us humans: it is our mission to link heaven to earth and earth to heaven within us by living out the qualities of heaven.
