Five senses - their activity consumes all of our psychic energies and prevents us from awakening faculties of a more spiritual nature
Human beings have honed the life of their five senses to perfection. They imagine that in this way, they will know and understand everything. They do indeed know many things, but the activity of the five senses consumes all their psychic energies, leaving nothing to awaken other faculties of perception. There are too many sensations! It is increasingly obvious that humans are chasing after thrills: seeing, hearing, tasting, having fun, brawling, shouting and so forth. They imagine that this is what life is all about. No, this is only part of it. We are living, that is true, we are alive, but this degree of life masks true life! We are always searching too low down… while we should be looking up above. Those who come to understand this will endeavour to eliminate the many sensations that impede true understanding, true vision; they will seek to elevate themselves by means of thought in order to experience sensations of a different nature, of a different quality, which will open them to the marvels of the spiritual world.
