Gaining - by giving

What do most people do if not seek what can serve their interest? They worm their way in wherever there is a profit to be made, and they discard whatever does not bring them money, power or prestige. You will say that if you do not look after your own interests, no one will do it for you. True, and it is important to find one’s place in society. But you must also see what you call your interest from a different perspective. Always ask yourself, ‘What will this activity bring me?... What will I gain?...’, but direct the questions to a higher ideal, to a more spiritual goal. This means that instead of always thinking about gaining by taking, you will also think about gaining by giving. That’s right, gaining by giving… For once you start wanting to work for others, the currents you release will automatically come back to you one day, and then you too will feel wonderfully supported.
