Giving - before death strips us of everything

Love is the ability to tear from ourselves what is dearest to us in order to give it away. But this quality is rarely seen. You are more likely to see people busy fighting, not just to keep what is theirs but also to seize what belongs to others if they can. Is it reasonable to waste so much time and energy that way when, soon, they will be forced to leave it all behind? Yes, one day death comes, and whether humans like it or not, it strips them of everything at one fell swoop. Why do they not learn to give before the hour of death? At that point, they have no choice but to abandon everything. All they are left with are the light and joy they have acquired by knowing how to give.
