Initiates - like a tree, they give away their fruit

In wanting to possess things, we are exercising a right that nature herself has given us. Our physical bodies, for instance, belong to us and we are well advised to keep them for ourselves. We may of course give away something of ourselves – our words, looks or smiles – but we must not give away our bodies. Look at a tree: it keeps possession of its roots, trunk and branches, but it gives away its fruit. This is in accordance with the designs of nature,* and Initiates, who understand the lesson of nature, do exactly what a tree does: they keep their roots, trunk and branches, symbolically speaking, but they give away their fruit, that is to say, their thoughts and feelings, their words, their light and their strength. You too must learn what to give away and what to keep for yourselves.
