Joseph - interprets the pharaoh’s dream; how this applies to our everyday life

You know the episode in Genesis where Joseph, the son of Jacob, was sold by his brothers to merchants who were on their way to Egypt. After all kinds of adventures, he was summoned one day by the pharaoh, who asked him to interpret a dream: he had seen seven fat cows devoured by seven thin cows, then seven beautiful ears of grain swallowed up by seven empty, dry ears. So Joseph said, ‘It means that the kingdom of Egypt will know seven years of prosperity, but that they will be followed by seven years of sterility and famine. I advise you, therefore, to have granaries made ready to store one part of the harvest gathered during the seven years of plenty. In that way, when the food shortage comes, Egypt will have sufficient to live on.’ What Joseph had predicted came true, and thanks to his clairvoyance the country avoided famine. In our psychic life, too, similar alternations occur over and over again: some fertile days, then some sterile days, and again some fertile days. When the sterile period comes, those who have taken no precautions will be impoverished, whereas those who have laid in stock will not suffer privation. You should always use foresight and keep some resources for the days of scarcity that may come. It is not enough to know this with regard to the physical plane; you must also take account of it on the spiritual plane.
