Light - the Word through which God created everything
Light is the matter that God, the Primordial Fire, emanated from himself at the beginning of the world when he said, ‘Let there be light’. This light is the Word that is mentioned at the beginning of the Gospel of St John, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things came into being through him…’ Light is the Word that the Creator uttered and through which he created the world. The physical world as we know it is simply a condensation of that primordial light. God, the active principle, projected light, and it was on this light, which was already material, that he worked to create the universe.
