Meditating - the first thing to do is to relax and remain passive

If you want to meditate, it helps to understand the nature of psychic work. Know that you should never force your brain to concentrate too suddenly on any one subject, because by forcing things, you jar your nerve cells, and your brain seizes up. So the first thing to do is to relax and remain passive, as it were, like a spectator watching patiently and peacefully as your cells slowly calm down. Of course, this process may take a while at first, but with practice, a few seconds will suffice. Begin by working gently, peacefully and harmoniously—this is the secret of good meditation. Then, once you feel that your nervous system is ready and recharged (for this passive attitude allows the brain to replenish its energies), you can turn your thoughts to your chosen subject.*
