Parable of the five wise virgins and the five foolish virgins - commentary
So many wonderful opportunities present themselves to you! But you cannot benefit from them, because you are not ready! This is the meaning, in the Gospels, of the parable of the five wise virgins and the five foolish virgins. Only the wise virgins who had prepared the oil for their lamps were admitted by the bridegroom to the wedding banquet. The oil for the lamp prepared by the wise virgins symbolizes all the inner conditions we have to fulfil in order to be present, available, awake and effective when we have an encounter that may change our life: a meeting with a person, or with beauty or truth. Those who have allowed themselves to be drawn into activities or states of a lower nature that have drained their energy will be like the foolish virgins who were not admitted to the wedding banquet: they will find the door within is shut.
