Temptation - each time we overcome it, we acquire new strength

Every time we win over temptation put before us by our lower nature, we acquire new strength. What is difficult of course is to maintain this state of grace. As long as we live on earth, we cannot remain for long on the heights we have managed to reach. We must continue to struggle, over and over, to conquer them again. When we leave the physical world for the spiritual world, we will no longer need to struggle because we will no longer be subject to temptation. But as long as we remain on earth, we must work up to the very last minute. It is the same when it comes to eating and breathing: we ate yesterday but we must also eat today and we will have to eat again tomorrow. We have just taken a breath and right away, we must start over again. One experience has led us to understand the meaning of life, but if we do not want to lose this meaning, we must have another experience, and then another, and another. We have overcome temptation? We will be tempted again, and once again, we will have to try to win the battle.*
