Temptations - we have to overcome them every single day

Every time we conquer the temptations our lower nature exposes us to, we acquire new strength. The difficulty, of course, is in maintaining this state of grace. As long as we are on earth, we cannot remain for very long on the heights we have managed to reach. We must struggle each time to re-conquer them. When we leave the earth for the world beyond, we will no longer need to struggle, for we will no longer be subject to temptations. But as long as we are here, we must strive, until the very last minute. To better understand this idea, you can compare it with eating and breathing – we ate yesterday, we must eat today as well, and tomorrow we will have to eat again. We have just taken a breath, and straight away we have to do the same again. One experience has allowed us to understand the meaning of life, but in order not to lose this meaning we must create another experience and then another. We may have overcome one temptation, but we will again be tempted, and again we will have to try to win the battle.
