Vigilance - whatever our qualities, we cannot do without it

Whether physically or psychically, vigilance and attention are indispensable. Do you fail to pay attention? If so, you are going to make a clumsy movement, bump against an obstacle or fall over. Neither your knowledge, your fortune, nor your virtues will save you. Lots of remarkable people have been the victims of accidents brought about by their lack of attention! Criminals, because they are aware that they might be taken by surprise at any moment, are extremely vigilant, which is how they often avoid prosecution. So, why leave vigilance to criminals? Do you imagine that your innocence and goodwill will automatically attract divine protection? No, if you are negligent, nothing and nobody will keep you safe. You might say, ‘But if I trust in God, if I love him, he will protect me.’ Certainly, but if you are not vigilant, even your love for God will not save you. He will say to you, ‘So you love me? That’s fine, but I am not here to guard you and your home.’ Neither your love nor your good qualities can be an excuse for not being vigilant. And this is even truer on the psychic plane.
