Work with thought - extracting the quintessence from the experiences in our life

You still have no real grasp of the importance of work by means of thought. Let me give you some examples. When you extract copper or iron from ore, for instance, you need tons and tons of that ore in order to produce a small amount of metal. All the rest is gangue or waste rock that is discarded. And to produce a few litres of Bulgarian rose oil, you need tons of rose petals. But this essence is so precious that a litre is worth a fortune. Well, until you learn to do some serious work by means of thought, you will remain at the fringe of life, on the surface of things. It will be as if you were merely shifting tons of gangue, of crude, worthless material, and all you will have to show for it will be wagons of ore that clutter your life. Whereas, the day you learn to work with thought, to concentrate, control yourself, and direct your energies towards the higher regions, you will feel that the events and experiences in your life are the raw material from which you can extract the quintessence. And it is this quintessence that is the meaning of life.*
