A lyre is not just a musical instrument invented, according to Greek legend, by the god Hermes. It symbolizes the human being, with each string corresponding to one of their bodies. But most humans are content to make only one string vibrate: their physical body. They do not bother much with the other strings: the astral, mental, causal, buddhic and atmic bodies, which is why the music they make is so pitiful! The disciples of an initiatic school study the nature and properties of each string, of each body, and they try to develop them. These exercises concern the whole person and, therefore, presuppose a new way of life that takes into account the least activities of everyday life, for their aim is to achieve a state where there is no longer any dissonance between the physical body, heart, intellect, will, soul and spirit. Those who have understood the profound symbolism of the lyre will themselves become a lyre, vibrating in unison with the entire cosmos, and they will be received amongst the sons and daughters of heaven.
