You wish to be disciples of an initiatic teaching… Don’t imagine you are going to become great alchemists, great mages or great cabbalists. Instead, think how you can learn to carry out all your daily activities in the best possible way, so you allow only the purest elements to enter you. When human beings purify their physical body and their psychic bodies – the astral and mental bodies* – the spirit can begin to manifest through their brain, and they become stronger, more active and more lucid. That is the foremost aim of an initiatic teaching. So try, from now on, to work on bringing purity into your thoughts, feelings and actions, on making the whole of your being an instrument of the spirit. When you do so, you will continue to learn, work and help other human beings even during sleep. This is what initiates do at night: their physical body lies there, motionless, asleep, but their spirit is not asleep; it remains active, and it journeys, so as to help and enlighten other creatures.
