Explain to a cat that it must give up eating mice, and it …

Explain to a cat that it must give up eating mice, and it will give a ‘miaow’ in agreement. But if, while you are preaching, it hears a faint scratching somewhere, it will leave without hesitation or scruple and go off to catch a mouse! This is its nature. So whenever you exhort a cat to stop eating mice – symbolically speaking – don’t hold too many illusions. What is it that I want to tell you here? That each of us comes to earth with tastes, tendencies and a specific temperament, and that we cannot change this, no matter what we do or what our intentions are. Carefully study the nature of the people you spend time with, then, and don’t expect them to behave in ways they are not capable of. Perhaps they will make an effort to please you, but this will not last, for you cannot expect people to go against their true nature.
