Suppose you are in love with someone: unconsciously you project your thoughts and wishes onto them, you try to enter their head and heart. In this way you affect them and, depending on the quality and power of your love, you either wreak havoc or else bring paradise to dwell in their soul. That is why love can be said to be the father of magic. Of course, some people will be scandalized by this claim, but they should analyse themselves. If they watch how they act when they are in love, they will see they are actually practising unconscious magic. They are constantly focusing on the person they love in the hope of catching their attention and attracting them to themselves: they choose the right conditions and the right situations in which to seduce or even trap them. Isn’t that what magic is? Well then, how can you not see that humans learned about magic from love?
