A disciple who found himself in a very unhappy state went …

A disciple who found himself in a very unhappy state went to see his master and began to complain bitterly saying heaven treated him unjustly. By the end of the conversation he had become so aggressive and conceited that the master, seeing this disciple needed to be taught a lesson, asked heaven to add to his burden. Some time later the disciple returned and of course continued his recriminations and the master again asked heaven to send him a few more trials. Three times, four times the disciple returned to voice his complaints and his anger, and things were only getting worse. But the master watched how the disciple's state evolved. Until at last, one day, nearly completely quashed by his troubles, the disciple began to think. He began to realize that perhaps he was the one to have made mistakes and he should change. He went back to his master, but this time proved more humble and wise. When he had left, the master asked heaven to ease his burden. The disciple came back delighted, saying he felt much better and he thanked heaven for having relieved and soothed him. Once more the master spoke to the Lord in his favour. And because the disciple increasingly showed himself to be grateful and reasonable, heaven decided to relieve him of all his burdens. So if you want heaven to lift your burdens from you then learn to accept the trials and learn to show gratitude.
