Flame - a symbol of the spirit, which we must nourish
A flame is something so fragile that the slightest breeze can extinguish it. But when you feed this flame, it can become a tremendous blaze, and the breeze that once threatened to blow it out now fans the fire until it burns so fiercely that nothing can stand in its way. The flame symbolizes the spirit – if you fail to nourish it, the slightest difficulty will extinguish it. We see a great many people whose spirit is almost snuffed out in this way; as soon as they are faced with an obstacle, they give up and that’s the end of them. Others on the contrary reinforce their spirit through prayer, meditation and contemplation, and not only do the obstacles they encounter fail to hinder them, but they drive them to go even further with even greater fervour. Difficulties that bring down the weak will strengthen those who are truly animated by the spirit.
