What is the power of a holy image? Not only do the faithful pray, sing, kneel and burn candles before statues and icons, they kiss them, adorn them with flowers and carry them in procession. In plaster, wood, cloth or marble, the image is there, mute and fixed, and believers ask it to save them. They have faith in it, and it is true that they obtain certain results. Why is this? Is it the image that acts? No, it is the intensity of the psychic energy projected by the faithful. This energy accumulates around the image, which becomes a conductor and transmits their prayers and supplications. By way of the image, which is only an intermediary, their requests rise all the way to heaven, because of the intensity of their faith. It is they who do everything, not the image, which only does something for them if they have faith.
