Sexuality is a purely egocentric impulse that drives people to seek their own pleasure, even if it is to the detriment of their partner. The primary motivation of love, on the contrary, is the happiness of one’s partner. Love is based on sacrifice: the sacrifice of time, energy and money in order to help one’s partner so that they may flourish and fulfil all of their possibilities. Nothing is more beautiful than the love of those who are ready to deprive themselves, to give something of their own being to another. And spirituality begins precisely at the point where love takes over from sexuality, when you are capable of sacrificing yourself for the good of another. As long as you are incapable of sacrifice, you are incapable of love.
