Many activities that humans engage in can be interpreted …
Many activities that humans engage in can be interpreted symbolically. Take dressmaking and embroidery for example. Both involve working with cloth, a needle and thread. ‘Well,’ you’ll say. ‘What’s so interesting about that?’ For those who know how to interpret them, each of these three objects – thread, needle and cloth – corresponds to something within human beings. The thread is thought and the needle is the will, which engages thought. Plied by the will, thought carries out its work on the cloth: the physical plane. The needle and thread form pictures on the cloth that can be colourful or dull, harmonious or disharmonious, light or dark. These pictures depend upon a human being’s intelligence, will and physical matter; they tell the story of a person’s whole life.
