People tell themselves: ‘Responsibilities are not for me! It’s out of the question! I won’t get married, I won’t have children, and I refuse to be tied down. I want my freedom!’ But do you really believe these people will be free? No, inside they will be even more limited than those who have accepted responsibilities and constraints, for their desire to be free is not inspired by a noble and disinterested ideal. Freedom cannot be found where people generally look for it, nor in the form they imagine. If they seek freedom by refusing or abandoning responsibilities in order to live an easy life of selfishness and pleasure, they open their doors to inferior spirits and become their slaves. We must seek freedom only to better serve the Lord and our earthly brothers and sisters.
