Isis unveiled - the Mysteries in the temples of Antiquity

When the Mysteries were celebrated in the temples of Antiquity, Initiates watched young virgins perform sacred dances. These girls devoted their whole lives to purity and were not allowed to show themselves to the uninitiated. Others – disciples who were expelled from the temples because of their weaknesses – wished to imitate them, and set up schools offering so-called ‘initiation’ into the great mysteries. But when we are not sufficiently elevated to contemplate celestial beauty, we make do with crude imitations. That is why, nowadays, the people who cram into strip-clubs to catch a glimpse of ‘Isis unveiled’ are none other than those disciples of the past who, having failed their true initiatic tests, now return to these sordid places for another try. Here, they all receive their diplomas with flying colours, because this ‘Isis’ unveils herself much more readily than the goddess of the ancient temples! What a pity, for those who know how to contemplate true beauty can rise to the very throne of God.
