To the extent that the psyche exerts an influence on the physical, faith can intervene in the healing of illnesses. An act of faith alone is not enough, however, but must be accompanied by a genuine work of thought. And even this applies only to certain disorders such as headaches or stomach aches, liver attacks or insomnia, since these disorders often have psychological causes such as anger, anxiety, sadness or shock. In general, however, a physical illness must be treated by physical means. Likewise, an illness of the psyche must be treated by psychological means. Prescribing medicines to someone who suffers psychological disorders may have some effect, but it is only palliative and brings about no deep-seated changes. The physical world and the psychic world each has its own laws which you must know and respect if you are to obtain lasting results.
