If we are to discover the truth about people, we must study them in the context of their entire existence. If we base our judgements on a short period of time – on one human lifetime, for example – we will understand very little about the events that transpire, because this life is only one link in a long chain. If we want to understand what a person has lived in one of his incarnations, we must not consider it in isolation but as part of a continuum. We must connect it to all his past incarnations over centuries and millennia, understanding at the same time that his existence will carry on into the future. We are always mistaken about the significance of the present when we fail to consider it within the context of a continuum extending from past to future, for nothing takes place by chance and without cause.
