Do not be in a hurry to declare your love to someone. It is …

Do not be in a hurry to declare your love to someone. It is your love that makes you happy and provides an impetus, a meaning to your life; but since the one you love is not yet a perfect being, if they know your feelings they can easily spoil everything without meaning to. They’ll say to themselves, ‘There’s an open door, let’s take advantage of it.’ It’s only natural. Then when you feel you haven’t been understood, you will suffer, you’ll be disappointed, and then what will be left of your love? You must understand, it’s the love that is important, more important than the person you love, so don’t go sacrificing it for the sake of someone who may well destroy it if you make the mistake of revealing it to them. You will be able to talk about it when you are both well prepared and very strong. But until then, don’t say anything, just keep loving; it’s your love that nourishes you, that gives you zest, the taste for life, the desire to overcome all obstacles. So, do not lose it.
