What do human beings wish for above all? Ease, affluence, comfort, success and so on. And then one day they are forced to admit that good judgement, strength of character, patience, purity and goodness are in fact far more precious, because these qualities enable them to deal with the problems everyone inevitably encounters in life, whereas without these qualities they even run the risk of seeing their greatest successes turn to disaster. Indeed, do not think that good conditions are necessarily best. They are often pitfalls to people who have not developed certain moral qualities. Look at what goes on around you and you will soon stop wishing for easy successes and envying those who achieve them.
