Emptiness looks to fullness for its fulfilment, fullness …

Emptiness looks to fullness for its fulfilment, fullness attracts emptiness to give it some of its abundance. From the beginning of time life has been created and maintained through this coming together of emptiness and fullness. What is the conception of an infant but a union between emptiness and fullness? What is nutrition but the entering of fullness (nourishment) into emptiness (the stomach)? So what is spiritual life? The merger of emptiness (the human soul) with fullness (the Deity). The human soul is a virgin who must be receptive and humble in order to attract the spirit of God who will fertilize her. Fullness and fullness repel one another, but the poverty of humility is at the same time a richness which attracts the Deity. We should be empty – humble – before God, so that He can fulfil us with his plenitude. If we are full, puffed up and vain, we repel Him. With human beings however, we must behave differently. If you want to help humans you have to be full, because if you are humble they will walk all over you. Be humble before God therefore, and full before humans.
