True morality, true religion is summed up in this precept …

True morality, true religion is summed up in this precept given by Jesus, ‘Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.’ The gulf between human beings and God is such that one wonders why Jesus gave us an ideal which surpasses our imagination – to be perfect like God himself! Well, Jesus knew exactly what he was doing. Because in the material world, it is good to be satisfied with little things, to be grateful and thankful for each one. But on the spiritual plane, we must never be content; we must be ambitious, insatiable, striving to reach the highest and most inaccessible ideal: perfection. We must ask for every heavenly gift. Yes, in this case, ask for one hundred percent… in order to obtain at least one percent! And you must ask for light – ask that your thoughts, feelings, actions and physical body become suffused with light. The word ‘light’ summarizes and condenses all the good things we could possibly imagine. It expresses all that is most pure, most powerful, most beautiful and most sublime: God himself.
