When you talk to people about simplicity they do not really know what it is. They dwell on its external manifestations: simplicity in clothes, in people's manner of behaving, in their way of life. In fact, simplicity is a philosophical attitude which involves distancing oneself from the physical world of events in order to elevate oneself to the spiritual world of principals. This is simplicity; going towards the centre, towards the summit. Whereas complication is nothing more than distancing oneself towards the periphery. Once you come away from simplicity, away from unity, you are confronted with so much detail, you no longer see how things co-exist according to the laws of affinity. To lead a simple life is to go up, towards the top. The most eloquent symbol of simplicity is the diamond, because it is not a compound, it is pure carbon. And once we find true simplicity, we possess the purity of the diamond, its firmness, its transparency.
