When a magus, an initiate, wants to consecrate an object he begins by purifying it and exorcising it, because the object has already been affected by the persons who touched it and by events occurring nearby which have covered it with deposits of opaque and impure fluids. These layers prevent magic thought from impregnating the object, because they form a kind of barrier, a screen which obstructs. When the object has been exorcised with formulas and incense fumes, the initiate dedicates it to a specific entity, a specific power, principle, or virtue. And then the object is reserved; as if a ‘No Entry to Evil Forces' sign had been erected. It is impregnated with light and only celestial forces are able to set up home within it in order to make use of it.
