At the bottom of a river, a school of little fish listened …

At the bottom of a river, a school of little fish listened as their teacher explained the danger of fish-hooks. And they all drew pictures of fish-hooks so they would be able to recognize them. But one of them was bored with this lesson and slipped away for an outing. Suddenly he saw a little worm wriggling in the water, and as he was starting to feel hungry he hurried to catch it. He then felt something violently pierce his throat. After a struggle he managed to escape, but what a state he was in! Shamefaced, he went back to school and promised the teacher to be more attentive in the future. ‘Oh,’ you will say, ‘this is a children’s story.’ Yes, but so many adults are no more intelligent than this fish! They do exactly as they please, believing they can get by without the lessons of the sages. With such a mentality they risk being caught by all kinds of fish-hooks, but will they have the same good fortune to escape?
