Every day there are so many events that can make your life …

Every day there are so many events that can make your life arduous, drab and above all mundane! But you must not let these events influence you. There are so many ways to keep yourself from becoming dull and gloomy! Think of the magnificent garden of Paradise. Tell yourself you are a flower in this garden of the Lord, a flower with magnificent colours and a delectable fragrance. What is a flower? It doesn’t know how to sing, dance or play an instrument; it is simply there with its colours and its fragrance, and the greatest artists go into ecstasies over it. And if we too learn to be like flowers, won’t heavenly spirits go into ecstasies over us as well? They will exclaim: ‘Oh! What a lovely flower!’ and they will look after us and make us even purer, more luminous and more fragrant. Won’t this image help you to resist languor and gloom, and to live a life of poetry?
