Relativity - feeling happy or unhappy

Feeling good or bad, happy or unhappy is quite relative. Say you find that you are a little bored and sad; life seems colourless and bland. Suddenly you receive bad news: there has been an accident and a member of your family has been seriously injured. Then of course, you are really unhappy. A few hours later you learn that it was not true; it was a case of mistaken identity. Ah, suddenly what joy! Life seems so buoyant, beautiful and rich! Yes, but why did it not seem like that earlier? Why did it take a false alarm about a family tragedy to make you conscious of the fact that you were already happy?*
