God pours out His love on all creatures, whether good or evil, but human beings are free to accept or reject that love. God continues to send it to us, but if we close our hearts to Him and do not love Him in return, we receive none of it. It is exactly as though He did not love us. Actually, it is all the same to God whether we love Him or not, this will not cause Him to change. However, if we do not love him, we put ourselves in a bad situation – by surrounding ourselves with a hard shell, God cannot get through to us. The Lord built the universe according to laws that are absolute. If we harbour feelings of doubt and revolt, we release such dense, opaque vapours that the rays of the divine sun cannot reach us and we are immediately plunged into cold and darkness.
