Down through the ages, religions have most often resembled warring families. Not only have they each claimed to possess the truth to the exclusion of the others – in other words to be the only legitimate heirs of the heavenly Father – but within each of them, what conflict, what injustice! As if it were up to humans to decree who is a son of God and who isn’t! You will say that today people are more tolerant where religion is concerned. Yes, but why? Because often it evokes only indifference in them. Even those who claim to be believers are not likely to show open-mindedness and understanding. But the true sons and daughters of God see and worship God in the religion of others. For God exists in the souls of all people as soon as they understand that it is precisely here, in people’s souls, that they must seek him. Yes, there are people who are truly inhabited by the divine. This is what you must sense in them, rather than worrying about what religion they belong to. Wherever these people are found, God can also be found.
